OMEGA WATCHES: A COMMITMENT TO INNOVATION AND QUALITY

From OMEGA's beginnings, these timepieces have recorded some of the most significant moments in the world (and beyond). Presidents, kings, astronauts and movie stars love OMEGA watches. Behind each one is a legacy of horological quality and innovation. OMEGA, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker and member of Swatch Group Ltd., is the world's leading watch manufacturer. For more than 169 years, the brand has been synonymous with excellence, innovation and precision.

About OMEGA

OMEGA, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker and member of Swatch Group Ltd., the world's leading watch manufacturer, was founded in 1848. For more than 169 years the brand has been synonymous with excellence, innovation and precision. OMEGA has always been defined by its pioneering spirit, demonstrated by its conquests of the oceans' depths and space.

In fact, since 1965, the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional chronograph has been a part of each of NASA's piloted missions including all six lunar landings.

In addition to its involvement with the environmental organization, the Good Planet Foundation, the brand is a proud partner of Orbis International, whose Flying Eye Hospital takes high-quality eye health care to some of the world's remotest regions.

No brand is more actively involved in sports timekeeping. In addition to partnerships in golf, sailing, athletics and swimming, OMEGA has served as the Official Timekeeper at 27 Olympic Games and will continue that role with the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

OMEGA has been worn on the wrist of James Bond since 1995 and its roster of real-life ambassadors includes George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford, Eddie Redmayne, Daniel Craig, Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Charley Hull, Michael Phelps, Chad Le Clos, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Abhishek Bachchan and Michelle Wie as well as astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Thomas Stafford.

Most importantly, OMEGA's history has been dedicated to a tradition of excellence in watchmaking. This legacy continued in 1999 with the launch of the revolutionary Co-Axial escapement and, in 2014, with the introduction of the fully anti-magnetic OMEGA Master Co-Axial calibre. In 2015, OMEGA's reputation for excellence was reinforced once again with the introduction of the world?s first Master Chronometer. Approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), Master Chronometer certification represents the Swiss industry's highest standard of precision, magnetic resistance and chronometric performance.

Famous OMEGA Sightings

The famous James Bond movie character has been wearing OMEGA since 1995. OMEGA real-life ambassadors include George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford, Daniel Craig, Michael Phelps, Chad Le Close, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Abhishek Bachchan and Michelle Wie. Astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Thomas Stafford also wear OMEGA watches.

In the James Bond movie Spectre, Bond wears two different OMEGA watches. One OMEGA watch is the Seamaster 300 Limited Edition series with a black ceramic bi-directional bezel ring. Bond also wears a Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M with a stainless steel case and blue dial.

Why do astronauts wear OMEGA? The original OMEGA "Moon Watch" is a Speedmaster style and is worn in space. The model is stainless steel on a stainless steel bracelet fitted with a black dial and a hesalite crystal. NASA asked OMEGA to use the hesalite crystal because this type of crystal does not break into tiny fragments.

This feature is important for astronauts. Tiny fragments could pose a danger in a zero-gravity environment. The official "Moon Watch" is waterproof to 100 feet and includes the calibre 1861 manual-winding movement.

OMEGA Watch Workings

Most importantly, OMEGA has a tradition of excellence in watchmaking. This legacy continued in 1999 with the launch of the revolutionary Co-Axial escapement. In 2014, the fully anti-magnetic OMEGA Master Co-Axial calibre was introduced.

In 2015, OMEGA's reputation for excellence was reinforced once again with the introduction of the world's first Master Chronometer. Approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, Master Chronometer certification represents the Swiss industry's highest standard of precision, magnetic resistance and performance.

The OMEGA brand is individual and unique. Each watch has a unique number to identify it. The Long Product Identification Code, or PIC, has fourteen numbers. All OMEGA watches are shock-resistant. OMEGA uses the official Industrial Norms of the Swiss Watchmaking Industry for testing.

OMEGA Watch Dealers: Chronograph vs. Chronometer

When it comes to the OMEGA watch workings, one big question is about the difference between a chronograph and chronometer. With a chronograph watch, the hands display hours, minutes and seconds. The mechanism for measuring time with a chronograph hand records seconds and calculates the minutes and hours.

A chronometer OMEGA watch is tested and certified to meet certain precision standards. A chronometer watch has an official rate certificate from the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. There is a 15-day testing period with the watches undergoing testing in various positions and temperatures.

Certain Seamaster Professional watches have a helium escape valve. This feature is useful for professional divers who endure various pressure situations while under water. The helium molecules diffuse inside the watch gaskets to keep the watch functioning during high pressure situations.
