Capri's Story

We’re so honored to feature Capri as St. Jude's patient representative of the year – millions of customers will see her picture on signage across our stores.

Capri was just a baby when her parents noticed unusual symptoms—oily hair, blemishes, and rapid weight gain. Tests revealed a tumor on her adrenal gland, and her journey led her to St. Jude. On the day of her surgery, her parents handed out brand-new socks to the surgical team—a tradition started by her dad, who believes “you can’t have a bad day in new socks.” After the successful surgery, the team returned with pant legs lifted, proudly showing off their socks.

Capri’s treatment included months of chemotherapy to fight cancer that had spread to her lungs. Today, Capri has no evidence of caner, is back home in Colorado with her six siblings, and thriving. She’s a fearless, fun-loving girl who loves animals, swimming, and getting her nails done during St. Jude checkups.

About St. Jude

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® is leading the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - so they can focus on helping their child live. Because of generous donor support, we can provide children cutting-edge treatments not covered by insurance, at no cost to families.

When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was considered incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate from 20% to more than 80%, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer.

How are the plushes and names selected?

When the plush samples arrive at the home office, they are evaluated by team members and a market research team. The plush animals are assessed on everything from “hugability” to overall appearance. Once the finalists are chosen, the team collaborate with the company's St. Jude patient representative of the year to identify the perfect name for this year’s plush!

Other Ways to Support St. Jude

Throughout the year, Jared offers an online donation option to customers in the amount of $1, $5, $10, $25, or Other during online checkout at Jared.com. All donations go to helping to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. Or give at the register during select weekends throughout the year.
