The Basics: Cushion-Cut Diamonds

A cushion-cut diamond has rounded corners and larger facets. Also known as "pillow-cut" (an allusion to their shape), cushion-cut diamonds have gained in popularity in the last few years, and are a favorite among Hollywood stars.

Many cushion-cut diamonds are featured in halo-style engagement rings, where they are surrounded by a host of smaller round diamonds to create a knock-out effect.

Because of its larger facets, if you choose a cushion-cut, you'll want to focus on the clarity of your diamond. Minor inclusions are more difficult to detect in a round-cut diamond than in a cushion-cut.
